September 17th: Constitution DayMonday, September 17, 2012 at 9:27 am by Samantha A. Peetros
Singer/Songwriter Michael Warren Rufo has released a new song today, “America Too (Handbasket)”, commemorating Constitution Day. The song opens with a verse addressing how constitutional rights have been infringed upon recently:
For three generations, we vowed we wouldn’t take it,
the open hand that slowly closes, into a fist that crushes roses.
Now you might say we’re just paranoid, looking for than the 4th of July,
but when our thoughts are under attack, you just can’t deny those facts.
How are you celebrating Constitution Day this year?
Though the Congressional August recess has come to a close, BORDC’s August Recess guide to promote civil liberties with your elected officials contains many helpful tips on how to take action this Constitution Day.
With the recent House vote to extend the 2008 Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) amendments and Judge Forrest recently enjoining the indefinite detention provisions of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), there is no better time to utilize this resource and contact your members of Congress. The Senate has yet to vote on the 2008 FISA amendment extension, and you can still impact its decision. Meanwhile, the Obama Administration has appealed the NDAA ruling from last week.
Take a stand today and tell your members of Congress to restore civil liberties in America.
