Obama’s Duplicity
December 6, 2009 at 4:34 pm by Andrea FloresIn a video titled “Obama vs. Obama” (below) by Mark Fiore, a political cartoonist, the duplicity behind the actions promised and taken by the Obama administration are cleverly exposed. With only a year in office, Obama has surprised many supporters by continuing the very actions he criticized of the Bush administration, in particular the strategies used to counterterrorism. The campaign promises to improve liberty and transparency in White House have not been fully realized.
In his first week of office Obama took steps away from Bush by signing executive orders to ban torture, close black site prisons, and shut down Guantánamo Bay. However, the administration has stumbled in dealing with the criminal actions of the past. Instead of pursuing full accountability, the Obama administration has moved toward preventive detention and continued the legacy of secrecy by hiding torture evidence, domestic spying document and CIA rendition details.
